HTTPS off/on in nginx config for symfony2. If necessary?

Hello. I found the HTTPS off/on option

in the Symfony settings ( wiki.nginx.org/Symfony ).

Checked on php-fpm with nginx/1.4.6 $_SERVER['HTTPS'] is correctly defined even without manual setting of this parameter.

Is this option really needed?
