How to write cross-platform applications for android?

I wanted to write cross-platform applications on some Javascript engine. But they dissuaded me: "Stop torturing users! for ios it still didn’t go anywhere, but under android js frameworks are a terrible evil." What then to choose?

SDL (i.e. C or C++) or Qt (i.e. C++)
An example SDL application is the Battle for Wesnoth game.
