How to write a cross-platform podcast listening app?

Hello! I am a big fan of podcasting and I am eager to develop my own cross-platform application for listening to podcasts - podcatcher. With comments and ratings of popular podcasts.
But don't really know where to start. What programming language to start with? Maybe there are comprehensive online courses?
I am well acquainted with the basics of programming, I easily build websites on ready-made CMS. Mac work computer.
