How to work with code in Unity3D on Ubuntu?

Hello. The situation is this: it was installed on a working computer with Elementary OS, on which the Unity3D environment was installed (via a .deb file, not via Wine). The question of editing the code immediately arose: monodevelop simply does not start (.Net core is installed), but I don’t know how to change the environment to visual studio code. Rather, I am well aware of Edit-preferences-external tools, but I don’t know which file to select there and where to get it. Interested in answers to such questions:
1) How to resurrect MD?
2) How to force Unity3D to open scripts through VSC?
3) What other ways of working with Unity scripts on Ubuntu systems can you suggest?
Arrange an answer to any of these questions. Thanks in advance.

@barskep

You can try Rider. What errors does MD have on startup?
