How to win at mat. the Olympics?

I am a first-year student (second semester) of one of the St. Petersburg universities. Let's just say, it's almost impossible to find it in the ratings.
The goal is to enroll in a master's program at a good foreign university (at least with some kind of coverage).
It's hard without a good portfolio.

Therefore, there is a goal - to win one of the Olympiads in the "Queen of Sciences".
What can you recommend? What to start doing right now? Are there any good materials on the topic?

What prevents you from studying potential universities and entering into correspondence with curators? This is much more productive than some kind of Olympics.

A good undertaking, if possible - you need to use it, but how does this relate to entering a university - I don't know.
