How to watch the exchange protocol between the browser and the web server?

When viewing the page, I can see the exchange protocol between the Firefox browser (button F12 -> Network). But if I download a file, then I can't see what the browser and server are exchanging.
How to see that?

If there is only one file, then it is possible in Google Chrome in the Developer Tools panel in the Network tab
Click the "Preserve Logs" checkbox
Here is a step-by-step example take.ms/urGde
If you really need to view the exchange protocol (many requests back and forth), then Sergey Protko correctly suggested Wireshark for Windows. Under Linux, you can use the console version of tshark.
