How to use Laravel 5.5 + VueJS 2 bundle?

Hello. The task was to develop a SPA on Laravel + Vue (for example, TodoList with authorization). I have never worked with Vue, and JS frameworks in general. I see a lot of skeletons on github, but they also differ in approaches: 1) embedding Vue in the Laravel project (it seems to be there in dev dependencies anyway). 2) Vue as an independent project, communication via REST API.
And yet, what is the best way to design for small/medium projects? I would be very grateful if you share a link to a similar project / skeleton.
