How to use Gulp in Yii2?

I tried this method , but it is justified when you sometimes need to build an application for production, in development it will be cumbersome to constantly run the command.
Now I want to set up watchers for gulp and automatically create the necessary file, which will only be connected to yii in AssetBundle.
It's not clear where gulp should be stored, in the root (along with node_modules), in frontend/ or in frontend/tools or somewhere else?
