How to use a text editor on a website?

Good evening.
Faced with the need to use the site along with PHP text editor. Previously, there was no such need, so I don’t fully understand how this happens.
To begin with, I would like to simply create a page where I fill in a few short fields + a field with a text editor (maybe Markdown), after saving I see the text written earlier in the HTML. Also, please tell us about editing this text, when previously written should appear from the database in the editor box for re-writing and editing. Thank you!
By the way, what editor would you recommend for such purposes? We need some simple, without whistles.
