How to upload an avatar to a VKontakte user page?

Good afternoon. Is there a task to make it possible to set a picture from the site as an avatar on the site? I used the JS API and this instruction Uploading the main photo to the user's page... . The problem is that when the saveOwnerPhoto method is called, nothing happens. The method returns photo_src, but no warning box appears. The avatar doesn't change either. There is no error. I tried different ways and options, rummaged through Google - nothing helps.
Is it possible to change the avatar from a third-party site? Someone did? And how can this be done at all?
