How to update correctly?

Help with updating plz)
Given -
Debian 10, nextcloud 20(version). VDS server, completely mine.
Does not allow updating further, swears at the nextcloud_data folder (it is in the root of the installation) Neither from the web interface nor from the console
. I understand that it needs to be deleted / moved, but all user data is there.

Try making a copy of the folder and deleting

move this folder to a safe place, then delete and update. if it swears, just throw it back to its original place
