How to turn off notifications on skype?

Pop-up windows when entering or leaving the network of someone from the contact list are very distracting.
Version 4.0 (Linux)

If a particular contact is of interest, just type "/alertsoff" in the chat with them.

And I also have a pop-up window when a message arrives. And it turns out that I am writing code, a window pops up - and I write part of the code to someone on Skype. Runs terribly. For some reason it doesn't turn off in the settings.
