No, you have everything selected outside the drawn area, which is clearly visible in the screenshot. Accordingly, there is a simple solution - to invert the selection.

In the Pen settings, change "Subtract Front Shape" to "Exclude Overlapping Shapes" (this is a universal option, you can change it as needed). Then the selection will not be inverted.
