How to transmit a signal from a USB webcam via a wireless channel?
The task was set by the management, you need to get a video stream from a USB webcam to a computer, but use not a cable, but a wireless approach (most likely Wi-Fi). I thought about three questions:
1. Since the camera also needs to be powered, this transmitter must be active, that is, a certain box connected to the outlet.
2. I remembered the approach of transmitting a signal from the mouse to its dongle (USB receiver), in theory, this idea is close to solving this problem, but we must not forget about the point above, it must be an active transmitter.
3. The authorities also wished for the future such a bidirectional connection, that is, it should even rather be a "Wi-Fi extension cable", that is, it does not matter to him what it transmits there, it simply transmits any signal from USB via Wi-Fi and receives his own receiver, inserted into the computer.
PS: While I was writing the question, the idea came to my mind about installing a router with a USB port reflashed to custom firmware, it seems like this way you can transfer the image from the camera, BUT! The computer is already connected to the Internet via an Ethernet wire, it turns out that you need to buy, for example, a PCI expansion card for Wifi or just a USB Wifi receiver and connect to the network of that router, right? In any case, the issue price is about 1000-1500 rubles.

Explain to your tight-fisted bosses that any solution has an implementation cost and a cost of ownership.
A camera with built-in wi-fi is on the market, it costs XXX rubles, it has a manufacturer's warranty, and so on. A Wi-Fi access point is also on the market, it costs YYY rubles, it has a guarantee, and so on. We connect, bam - it works stably, consumes only electricity. There is even a relatively wireless solution - to put a camera on the mobile phone over the network.
Since USB is a time-synchronous interface, any network delay will cause this camera to be disconnected from the host it is running on, diverting you from your main work to fix this collective farm, and wasting assets (your working time) on this repair. Now let's say you get sick. Run with a thermometer in your mouth to fix your boss's webcam at half past eight in the morning?
All sorts of solutions with flashing ketarouters with Linux are a circle of skillful hands that works while you look after it. Do you have nothing else to do at work? For example, to raise qualifications and change the boss-tyrant to a more adequate one.

will cost more than cameras with wifi
such solutions are used to control industrial equipment, when there is no other way
For each camera, you need to sort out the pi and, of course, a special config for a mini server-gateway ...
Take any old smartphone, install the "webcam" or "video nanny" application (for example, dormi) on it, and take a picture on another smartphone or computer.
