How to translate a page in Magento 2?

I tried this method (changed a few phrases in en_US.csv):

Magenta 2.2, works in dev mode. Tried both app/design/frontend/{Vendorname}/{themename}/i18n/en_US.csv
and
app/code/{Vendorname}/{Modulename}/i18n/en_US.csv
Also 1 option (app/design/frontend /{Vendorname}/{themename}/i18n/en_US.csv) tried both for my theme and for (Magento/luma) from which my theme is inherited. Tried rm -r pub/static/frontend and then ran footcloth:
php bin/magento setup:upgrade
php bin/magento setup:static-content:deploy -f
php bin/magento cache:flush
Nothing changes. What am I doing wrong? What else can you try?
