How to transfer ESXi from HDD to flash drive without losing configuration?

Put ESXi on HDD 500 GB.
This turned out to be super redundant, since the datastore with virtual machines lives on a separate RAID array.

A whole 500GB disk just for the hypervisor is quite redundant.
Is it possible to somehow transfer the hypervisor (ESXi6.5) to a USB flash drive without losing the configuration (so that you don’t have to register all virtual machines in inventory and configure VLANs again) ??

Thanks in advance for your replies!

@Mixa34

  1. make a backup of the conf according to the manual
  2. copy the backup
  3. turn off the hypervisor
  4. remove hdd, insert flash drive
  5. roll up ESXi 6.5
  6. restore conf from backup
  7. PROFIT!!!
