How to suggest edits to a module on github.com?

The point is the following. Quite often I use one third-party module, which I connect via composer to the vendor folder. But in this module I lack one functionality, I always have to inherit and add this functionality.
I decided to offer the author my addition to his module, but since I have never done this, I want to ask the advice of experienced people. How is it usually done?
You can even give a link if somewhere it is written how to do it step by step.

This is how you ask him in an issue
Describe your case
How would it be convenient for you to solve it
Ask how the maintainer would solve such a case
If the feature is worthy and you have experience in writing it, write tests, write code, make a push request
