How to stop a recurring task in org-mode?

The question is in the title. Changing the status from todo to done does not help - apparently the counter reopens the task. Only manual removal? This crap also pollutes my entire agenda, spamming the schedule with the task. Well, if this is one task, but if 10!?

To mark a task with a repeater as DONE, use C-- 1 Cc Ct, ie, org-todo with a numeric prefix argument of '-1'.
