How to start writing a store engine?

Good day! The topic of site engines became interesting, and then the idea arose, and the question itself. How to start writing an engine for an online store? What do you need to know? HTML, CSS, JS, it's natural, but what else?
I understand that I can’t do anything sensible, but I’m interested in “the goal of increasing education: P”
Thank you in advance.

I don't recommend writing. It will take a lot of time and effort, you have no idea how much.
But if you still decide, study modern engines and start with the core that will be responsible for products and categories - everything else will revolve around them.

1) Open Source store engines are enough if you need exactly the result.
2) If you need a process - you have listed only the front-end components. You also need to write a backend (framework, for example: Symphony2, Yii, RoR, Django), you need a base (PostgreSQL, MySQL). You will also have to attach some kind of payment, tobish to study more of its API.

From studying the finished goods market:
merchium.ru
storeland.ru
insales.ru
ecwid.ru
Bitrix
xcart
cs-cart
netcat
And that's not all

With that attitude, and for the purpose of education, learn PHP. He will be gentle with you, forgive half of your mistakes, but it will not get worse, because if you decide to continue, you will still have to realize these mistakes, and the start on it is really fast. Take some "general" PHP and MySQL book like this one .
