How to start reverse engineering the closed code of the Korean axis?

Welcome all. I've never done reverse engineering before, but owning a cowon X9 player for almost 5 years made me interested in this topic and asking questions.
On Russian-language (and foreign too) forums and resources, nothing sensible about these players, their axes, and any software for working with them could not be found. The code is closed, there are no full-featured normal custom firmwares.
Actually my questions:
Where should one start under such conditions?
What software can be used?
What and where can I read, or maybe there is a Russian-language forum where you can assemble a team of enthusiasts for this lesson?
