It is possible in English. But better in Russian)
I have no experience with mathematical packages (simple calculations in Maxima do not count). Have experience in programming.

It’s worth starting with installing it)
and then calculate something simple, write a couple of scripts, deal with the main types ... and I think it’s worth starting to do the task there, for which everything was started. excellent help in matlab)
If you have experience in programming, then I would advise you to immediately start writing the task that you need. If there is none, then take the old one that you wrote in any programming language related to mathematics. And further the documentation in teeth and forward.
A year ago, I saw matlab only from afar, but now I feel quite confident in it. In my opinion, on books and videos you will simply lose time.
If it's in English, then try the 'Scientific Computing' course:
www.coursera.org/course/scientificcomp
This is a university course and it starts with lectures on difurs, but then it gets more interesting. The next launch is early January.
Start by learning Octave, it's practically the same as Matlab. Try Andrew Ng's machine learning course. Octave Tutorial section. You can also complete tasks later if you are interested in the course. This is the general syntax. And then you need to study those Matlab packages that interest you
If you need to process images, I advise you to read Gonzalez and Woods. They write well.
Well, the first thing you need to start learning Matlab is to install Octave for yourself.
