How to sort news by add. field "year" in the list of news?

I know that there is no such thing in the standard features of the engine.
Perhaps it will turn out somehow to sort the news by add. to the "year" field, while not creating new fields in the database?
There are a couple of old solutions on the Internet that no longer work or originally did.
Are there any WORKING hacks or modules?
