How to solve problems after replacing p1-166 processor with AMDk6-2/400?

There is an old computer:
motherboard: Gigabyte GA586t2 (latest bios)
256mb ram
The processor was originally Pentium 1 -166, replaced with AMD k6-2/400afq.
When installing the OS (win98se) while checking PnP devices, it constantly crashes to a blue screen, with a fatal error message 0E and sometimes 0D.
There are 8 switches and one jumper on the motherboard, which must be set depending on the processor model. In the manual for my mother, my processor model is not written, but the features of the last BIOS indicate that this processor is supported. I found how to set the switches on the forum here.
I also did tests of the hard drive and RAM, they did not reveal any problems.
Hence option 2: incorrect switch settings on the motherboard, crooked processor.
Do you have any ideas?

The switches usually set the frequency / multiplier / processor power - based on this, they must be set. More likely some kind of software incompatibility. Have you tried, for example, to try to install W2k or what ancient linux to run?
