The fact is that the pictures are located at addresses like https://pp.vk.me/c618418/v618418240/7f86/FDLxWjwPw... . Instead of pp.vk.me it can be, for example, cs7066.vk.me.
And when I try to download with curl, I get the following error:

curl: (60) SSL certificate problem: self signed certificate in certificate chain

But still works great in FF, chromium and others. I would like to understand what is the reason.

I can suggest for curl - when requested, replace https://with http://.
