How to set up your own hosting?

Hello. I have been developing websites for more than 5 years and have accumulated a sufficient number of works (315 sites of which 281 are on constant support). There was a very sharp question with my own hosting. I myself used and connected clients to Hostinger, but somehow I got tired of constantly unfastening money to the host (moreover, the money goes a lot (some of mine, some from clients, but still the hemorrhoids are the same). Minimal knowledge, such as putting myself on a separate machine php, mysql, apach, etc. are available, but something more serious is needed. Here is a rough list of what you need from hosting:

  • - Ability to configure mail from the domain
  • - Direct dns from domain to host
  • - Set up a subdomain
  • - Connect mysql databases - How to organize a personal account for clients (so that in at least a minimal form they can see their files on the server and check mail (if I'm not mistaken, you can somehow connect round cube or squirrelmail))
  • - Somehow pack this work through the site

Who can tell me a worthwhile info or help in some other way, I'm ready to pay !) Thanks in advance!

you also have to pay for your server/servers.
the easiest way is to find a sane hoster and take a reseller package from him. it will be cheaper and no technical smut.
if you want to do it yourself, then:
- take a server, take a free panel like vesta cp and raise the economy
- take a server and a paid panel (they are shitty), usually the deployment of the entire economy is automated there.

Have you really never taken a VPS for yourself in 5 years?
Like mine:
I took VPS from VDsina, Installed
CentOS 6 + VestaCP.
I delegate domains to Yandex, from Yandex they go to my VPS
Each client has their own account in the control panel

This will, of course, be a plus for your reputation, but it will still require considerable investments. And the minimum knowledge is not enough here, you need to be a high-class system administrator.

When installed, the panels automatically install and configure most of the necessary services and add-ons.
According to my feelings, ISPmanager is one of the simplest, Virtualmin is closer than others to the native settings of components (that is, it changes them less for itself).
Also, most panels have built-in functionality for backup, system monitoring, update management and other system tasks.
Thirdly, you need to calculate the amount of resources needed for the server, and in accordance with this, choose a dedicated or virtual server.
If you want to be able not only to manage automatically hosting, but also clients, service packages and payments, you also need a billing panel. For example: BILLmanager, WHMCS.
It is better to use a separate server for it, but this is not important.
The integration of billing and hosting panels into the site will have to be done separately (WHMCS has some basic settings for this).
