How to set default gate?

Hello!
It is necessary to configure the default gate address 172.27.40.9 for the pool of subscriber IP addresses 10.185.255.0-10.185.255.255 on ubuntu. I know that the settings are changed in /etc/network/interfaces. However, information could only be found on how to do this for one address.
Problem solved, thank you all for your replies

As mentioned above, the gateway address must be on the same subnet as the subscriber clients.
Having a local address with addresses 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.40 for example. The gateway address must be exactly in the range 192.168.1.x.
Otherwise it doesn't work.

Only I'm wondering how you are going to gate in another subnet?

The default gateway must be on the same network as the client. In your case, it must be on the network 10.185.255.0/24

I apologize in advance for my ignorance. Perhaps I misunderstood the idea.
Addresses 10.185.255.0-10.185.255.255 must be accessed via gate 172.27.40.9 is this possible?
