in general, at the start of the wasps, in theory, there can be no windows. Before loading X or wayland, it's all - not windows.
Look for boot logs in /var/log
, for example, /var/log/boot.log
Perhaps journald is responsible for the logs, then pulling out information is much more convenient using journalctl.
To work without window managers, there is tmux .

Unlike FreeBSD, the boot log cannot be viewed on the Linux console. From the word at all. It is displayed somewhere and disappears as soon as getty starts. It can only be seen in dmesg (well, in /var/log/kernel, if configured).
Generally Shift+PgUp. But not the whole log will be there ...

In the terminal, if there is something above, then simply turn on "Scroll Lock" (yes, that very useless button that few people thought about) and the cursor switches from changing the position of the cursor to flipping the screen.
