How to scroll a pdf object on the client?

pdf documents embedded on the page have a nasty feature - large gray edges. Because of this, we see only half of the document on the screen.

Any idea how to center the document? On stackoverflow, I found a topic little noticed by the community where they say that this is hardly possible.
