There is a site, I want to make a subdomain. For example dev.exemple.ru. But what is the best way to restrict access to it? The first idea is to look at ip and redirect to the main site if it does not fit. Perhaps there are better options?

The solution is simpler, if you develop alone, then it's easier to throw the hostname in hosts.
Or use Allow directives
