How to resize paddings in bootstrap4 grid?

In my layout, the size of the padding for the column is 5px. That is, by default in bootstrap the $grid-gutter-width variable is 30px. I changed the value of this variable to 10px in the layout. But still, when laying out, the columns have paddings of 15px.
What did I miss?

first you include styles with redefinition of variables in the common file, then the bootstrap itself, then all other styles
