How to reset password in Linux Live CD?

All the best!
I'm trying to reset the password from xubuntu (on a flash drive), I believe that this is a live cd version, since when mounting I see the following folders:
System Volume Information, boot , casper, isolinux, uui in the casper
folder is initrd.lz in which, after unzipping with the p7zip utility, full has a file /etc/passwd and looks like this: I changed it to : . I packed everything back and started again from the flash drive, oddly enough everything started :), but the password was not reset. Can you tell me how to reset the password in this case?
root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh
root::0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh

Try writing the password to /etc/shadow. Only passwords are stored there in encrypted form, and I don’t know which one (too lazy to google). The easiest way is to change the password in the system itself, then pack this very file as was done with /etc/passwd
