How to replace Ubuntu?
I have an old weak laptop with 3 gigs of RAM and two operating systems: Windows 7 and Ubuntu 14.04. Now I mostly sit on Ubuntu, but lately it’s almost impossible to work in it: after opening Chrome with a couple of tabs, netbins and evins, the system starts slow down terribly. Moreover, Windows 7 works fine under much greater loads, without any brakes. In the internet, I could not find a way to improve the performance of Ubuntu and it seems that Ubuntu has gone to shit, so I ask you to advise some normal Linux distribution. Thank you.

Debian with XFCE.
But it should be noted that applications can actively eat up RAM (the same Netbeans, Firefox ...).
Dear friend, a similar situation arose in me and Chromium turned out to be guilty of all sins.
This Google craft can take more than 2 gigs in RAM.
I had to go to Orthodox Firefox. And now there are no problems, I can safely play Civilization 5, watch videos on YouTube and do something else.
why not switch to xubuntu or lubuntu, or just replace DE with xfce/lxde? if everything else suits Ubuntu.
Try Xubuntu, it's almost the same, only lighter. But in fact, laptops start to slow down not because the OS is wrong, but because software updates are coming out, which become more slow. This is especially true for the web. Nothing will help you here except buying a new laptop.
Xubuntu. I bet on all outdated laptops it works like a clock.

The only complaint is that it takes a long time to load, somewhere around 90-100 seconds
