How to remove unwanted copies of image thumbnails in Wordpress?

Good afternoon! The problem is the following. After uploading an image, Wordpress creates several copies of it in different sizes, and places them in this /wp-content/uploads folder, which significantly fills up the space on the hosting. What can be done about it to get rid of unnecessary copies?

nothing. this behavior is normal and logical.
Plugins and add-ons create their sizes through the WP api. Each image uploaded through WP is cut to fit all sizes. It is impossible to find out if you are going to insert it into the post in full size or whether it will be used by some plugin in the size of 50x50.
