How to remove the underline in EditText, but the cursor remains?

It probably doesn't matter to you anymore. I answer for those who stumble upon a question from a search engine (like me).
The underline appears when the EditText has no background. That is, you just need to set the background.
Solution (when EditText like yours needs to be left transparent):
android:background="@android:color/transparent"
