How to remove the .vscode folder and why is it needed at all?

As soon as the folder is opened with the visual studio code editor, it creates the .vscode -> record -> .gitignore folder inside. How to make sure that this does not happen and what is this folder for? Not that it interferes, but annoying when something appears by itself. Thank you!

It stores various project settings.
So that it does not an eyesore with its content, add its name to .gitignoreat the root of the project.
