in the admin - nothing. in product.tpl, comment out the corresponding code fragment - if you suddenly need a manufacturer later, uncomment it. Yes, and instead of the term "manufacturer" in some cases it is useful to use another term, such as "trademark" or something suitable for the logic of the site. Changed the translation in the corresponding language file - and no longer "manufacturer".
