How to recruit projects for a Full stack PHP developer portfolio?

Where can I find eligible projects that I can use for my upwork/odesk portfolio?

Currently working full-time as a Project Manager (upgraded from lead developer position, PHP development experience over 7 years), but there are thoughts to move away from this and go freelancing. I can't showcase projects that I worked on in organizations.

Knowledge level is quite good: PHP5 (PSR-2), ANSI SQL, JS, AJAX, GIT, CI, PhpUnit, Selenium, Frameworks and CMS (CodeIgniter, Yii, Wordpress, Bitrix), LAMP, WAMP (Apache/IIS), OS (Linux, Windows), Console scripts (bash, php).

On FL and other sites, it is impossible to get orders from scratch. I also don’t really want to take orders, the essence of which is to create a site on WP.

PS: Ready to take, almost for food, projects with labor intensity up to 10 hours a week.

If you have 7 years of experience, then spend a weekend or a week on at least some kind of KRUD application - whatever, to-do list, bookmark manager, look at the API of some third-party service and write a small application that will pull something from there and so that with filters, and the code on github.
In fact, changing specialization is your personal problem, which customers are not required to delve into.
Show your code that you can and know how to do the job, play on urgency in the first orders - be among the first on urgent and expensive orders, so you will bypass people with ratings and reviews.

If you have a lot of experience, then you will love tons of written code, applications, utilities, snippets behind your back.
Think about what you can take out of this in Open Source, format it as it should, and create several projects on GitHub. Here is the completed portfolio.
