How to recover formatted VeryCrypt partition?

A friend accidentally formatted a drive that was a VeraCrypt encrypted partition.
They tried to open the disk, and at the suggestion of the system to format the partition, they formatted it.
Is it possible to somehow return the disk layout so that VeraCrypt can open the partition?

Familiar situation. From my experience with PGP and TrueCrypt, it was not possible to restore.
It was about five years ago. Perhaps now there are some analysis tools, but rather 99% will not work. From personal experience, at that time I killed two weeks analyzing the options.
