How to read/write sound to/from linux usb modem?

There is a Huawei e173 usb modem, linux ubuntu and a little knowledge of c++.
I want to make an answering machine / autoinformer with dialing.
I found only one article ( habrahabr.ru/post/192930/), but the author's server is unavailable, and the files I recorded are not played. (The modem rings, and when I pick up the phone, it immediately hangs up, and writes in the output that everything is OK) Does anyone have any developments / examples / links to articles on the topic, preferably in c / c ++?
