How to quickly transfer 100GB of images to an external usb?

There is a photo library of the photo application on mac os x of about 100GB (images from 500kb to 10mb).
An external HD usb (3.0, exFat) was purchased in order to transfer the entire library to it.
When you try to copy to an external HD, the execution time is 5 days. Of course, there is no way to wait that long. At the same time, large files (movies) of the same volume were copied in a few minutes.
Please give me the knowledge of how to transfer so many images faster.
(It will be inconvenient to convert to ntfs, since poppies without extensions do not work with it. But I will decide if there is no other way out.)

The task is complicated by the fact that on a poppy of 256GB SSD memory, accordingly, when archiving, creating an image of the library, you will need another 100GB for the archive. There may not be enough space. And plus this library should still be used. That is, it should be on the disk in expanded form.

Everything is very simple - you make a large archive of files.
You won't need any space on your computer.

I personally copy files to an external drive via rsync. You can copy while there is time, and later continue at a convenient time.
+ I think the predicted time does not show correctly. Just copy and wait.

Most likely, the problem is in a large number of small files. Expanding dimonchik2013
's answer , I would take the archiver, set compression: 0 (if the files are not bmp, of course), delete the source files, and pack it into one archive, which I would copy to an external drive. If there is not enough space, you can do the same in portions, at least 1 GB, at least 5 GB.

Break into pieces of 25GB. And the archive will not take up much space and will be thrown off quickly
