How to push a Git project to shared hosting?

Good afternoon.
There is a task of developing a site on a remote server (virtual hosting). I don’t understand a little how to organize this - before, all project files were stored only on the local area and, if necessary, pushed to github or bitbucket. And how now to push them to a remote virtual hosting?
A search on this site led me to ftploy.com/, but it's expensive and I'm not sure that the only solution is that it may be possible to set up a git server on the hosting or something like that .. Please tell me knowledgeable people.

@Fr3nzy

You can deploy using some build server. For example, travis
