How to properly use Bootstrap less files with bower?

Using Bootstrap I am modifying variables.less.
If someone after me takes over the project and downloads Boostrap using Bower, it will replace the original files, including variables.less. How to avoid such problems? How do people solve this issue in the development team?

You can't do that.
Redefine variables in your styles.
Those. first comes bootstrap import → import of your variables → other styles.
