How to properly set up vpn on linux mint with internet?

I create a new pptp connection, enter my ip in the settings, then the login password, in the advanced settings I check the boxes in front of both MSCHAP, I check the box in front of MMPE, also in front of all compressions and echo packets.
in the ipv4 settings is automatic vpn (there is another option automatic vpn adresses only)
These are all the settings that I set. As a result, when I connect, it says that the connection was successfully established, the entire Internet disappears and the only place where I can connect is the router itself (y which just costs vpn). Router asus rt-n12. Through windows the connection is great.
Also, the problem is that vpn itself breaks after a few minutes.
What settings did I miss?
in Windows ipconfig the mask is 255.255.255.255 and the default gateway is generally 0.0.0.0
linux ifconfig outputs the same mask, but default gateway is router address 192.168.1.1

@rusbaron

Everything worked by itself when I changed the subnet number on my home router, because. it was the same for the home and work networks, the routers interrupted each other.
