How to properly set up Ubuntu?

For me, the main three things in the OS are stability, convenience, and beauty. Since version 7.04, I've been able to get them all by fine-tuning XFCE. Now everything goes wrong all the time. I managed to achieve a beautiful interface out of the box from KDE4, but it is very heavy (maybe make it faster?). In addition, I did not understand how to add a panel in the style of MacOS and Win7. In addition, on all DEs, my mouse cursor runs very quickly (I set it to a minimum), and the touchpad is like crazy - when copying text in the browser, it always strives to either search for this text in Google, then go back to a random number of pages, then go according to this text, considering that this is a url, then according to a random url from the page. And finally, after installing the NVidia drivers, gdm/kdm/lightdm stops starting. He then starts

Are there any good articles on fixing this?

Not for the sake of holivar, but visually closer to the Mac OS design, I still think Gnome, and in the same Ubuntu it is polished better than KDE, the MAC OS style panel is added by installing Cairo Dock or its analogues, I also came across Win7 style dock somewhere . As for the touchpad, try installing gsynaptics (available in the repositories), after which another utility for configuring the touchpad will appear in the settings.

The question arises, why do you need Ubuntu? She is heavy by default. Instead of working as a file, it's easier to take any other distribution that only offers a console and deliver everything you need to it.

Appearance — garbage, mood somehow. The whole problem with the touchpad is that it’s impossible to work in such conditions, in KDE4 the problem seems to have disappeared after turning off the multitouch (or it didn’t have time to appear yet), but I had to take it down due to the brakes and the monstrous heating of the laptop, in Gnome and Xfce I don’t know where it is being done.
Well, GDM - it's still more convenient to log in through it, and not through the console
ZY . And what are some good deb-based distributions with a bare console (I don’t want debian, ubuntu is good, but I don’t know where to install only the console in the latest versions)

you still probably have a horizontal scroll on the touchpad enabled, when you touch this area, the mozilla goes either forward or backward along the links / history.

And here's another thing: when you watch a flash video in a browser, the system thinks it's idle and goes into sleep mode. Although when viewing a normal video in a video player, everything is fine. How to make the system respond normally?
