How to properly import color images into TensorFlow?

I am going to implement a color image classification algorithm on TensorFlow. I don't want to resort to other big projects like Keras just to import images. What lightweight libraries can be used? Or is it worth implementing your own importer from files, but how?

Thanks to ivodopyanov for the tip! I didn't know that TensorFlow comes with Keras, and I also read that it's trendy to use them together. This is what I needed, since later I am going to work with the GAN architecture.
