How to properly forward DNS requests when the main web and DNS servers are down?

Hello,
We have a dedicated server in our office for our website. Both the web and DNS servers are on the same computer.
We also have an inexpensive alternative - shared hosting from a single host. Let's say our dedicated server and, accordingly, the DNS server are temporarily unavailable (for example, when they are being serviced). I would like that during this period of time, visitors to our site get to our site located on the server of the host. I'm thinking of using a secondary DNS server registered with the domain registrar on our site's hosting DNS server. And when our main servers become available again, then site visitors will again get to our server.
My question is, how good is this idea and will it even work like this in reality?

Yes, it's possible and very common: if a server (with ip A) goes down, you can connect to the next DNS registry IP and access another server (with ip B) to get the service.
