How to properly connect an LED strip to Adruino through an irf520n field-effect transistor?

I'm trying to connect a single-color LED strip to adruino r3 using an irf520n field-effect transistor according to this scheme
. I use the fade sketch that is in the examples. But I just get the blinking of the strip, without changing the brightness, tell me where the error is. I feed from 12 volts. The output from the digital pin is connected. Maybe I need analog?
