How to program the keyboard backlight?

Hello. There is a Lenovo ThinkPad W540 workstation. I recently got the idea to reprogram my keyboard backlight. What I mean is, for example, if I press a button, that LED under the keyboard slowly fades out and returns to its normal position. Can you point me to some resources where I can find information on how to do this? Unfortunately, my searches have yielded no results.

And where did you get the idea that there are generally separately controlled backlight elements for each key separately?
