How to practice as a systems programmer?

Hello, how would you advise a beginner to practice in system programming? There is initial theoretical knowledge, namely, I read the book "The Linux kernel. Description of the development process", "Tanenbaum. Modern operating systems". I also know C quite well. Thanks for the advice!

Write your OS, of course.

Take any system program from linux and try to figure out what it does. Or the source of firewood on the device. Or hardcore in general - write firewood for a device that is not supported by linux (the truth is still to look for this :) )

How to practice

Get involved in projects of interest, solve their real problems.
If Linux is interesting, I think the most favorable entry point for a newbie is through kernel testing .
