How to organize load-tolerant nodejs?

There is a server for playing on nodejs on a 100mbit channel.
Clients communicate with the server at about 0.2Mbps. (30 kb / sec)
now the question. 100Mbps/0.2Mbps = 500 people online in the best scenario, even if you try to optimize the protocol to 10kb - 1500 people come out.
But how do games work in which node pulls both 15k and 40k online?
